The Pleiades

M45 is an open star cluster located approximately 445 light-years from Earth. It contains several hundred stars, with the brightest ones easily visible to the naked eye under sufficiently dark skies.

The seven brightest stars gave rise to the famous nickname “Seven Sisters.” Yet behind these few visible stars lies a much larger group of stars that share a common origin.

Through the lens, the Pleiades also reveal another fascinating feature: the reflection nebulosity surrounding them. These clouds of interstellar dust scatter the light from the stars, giving them their characteristic blue hue.

The contrast between the delicate blue of the dust, the brilliance of the stars, and the depth of the night sky transforms the cluster into a true cosmic landscape.
