The Andromeda Galaxy

The light you see in this photograph left the Andromeda Galaxy approximately 2.5 million years ago. It shows us our great galactic neighbor as it was long before the emergence of our own species.

This photograph was created from long exposures and then processed to reveal the spiral arms, dust lanes, and numerous luminous regions that make up the galaxy.

A significant part of the work takes place after the acquisition: data calibration, image stacking, and processing of the colors and contrasts. In total, 34 hours were dedicated to creating this image.
