The light in this photograph left the Andromeda Galaxy approximately 2.5 million years ago. It shows our large galactic neighbor as it was long before our own species appeared on Earth.

This photograph was created from long exposures and processed to reveal the galaxy's spiral arms, dark dust lanes, and countless regions of light.

A significant part of the work happens after the imaging itself: calibrating the data, stacking the individual exposures, and processing the colors, contrast, and fine details. In total, [X hours] went into creating this image.

The Andromeda Galaxy

Approximately 2.5 million light-years away, Andromeda is the nearest large spiral galaxy to the Milky Way. It contains hundreds of billions of stars and is gradually moving toward our galaxy.

What you see here is therefore extremely old light, arriving on Earth after a journey of millions of years.

That sense of time is one of the things I love about astrophotography: an image hanging on a wall can also be a window onto an object whose light began its journey millions of years ago.

From starlight to image

An astrophotograph is more than a long exposure.

The individual frames are calibrated and combined to improve the signal-to-noise ratio and reveal faint structures. The colors, contrast, and details are then carefully processed to build the final image.

The result is my photographic interpretation of Andromeda, created from its own ancient light.

Rigid and durable, with a matte finish that reduces reflections while preserving the details of the background sky and the fine details of the stars.

Premium Acrylic Glass
A glossy finish that adds depth and luminosity to the image. It gives the stars and the brightest regions of the nebula a stronger presence. Not recommended for sizes smaller than 40 × 60 cm (16 × 24"), due to the mounting system being visible through the four corners of the image.
