The Triangulum Galaxy

Located approximately 2.7 million light-years away, the Triangulum Galaxy, or M33, is one of the major galaxies in our Local Group.

Smaller than Andromeda and the Milky Way, it has a spiral structure particularly rich in star-forming regions. Its light traveled for approximately 2.7 million years before reaching our camera.

This photograph seeks to bring out this structure while preserving the many small luminous regions scattered throughout its spiral arms.

From Light to Image

Photographing a galaxy this distant requires bringing out extremely faint details without losing the overall structure of the object.

The different exposures are therefore combined and processed to gradually reveal the spiral arms, star-forming regions, and areas of dust.
