The North America Nebula

Located approximately 2,200 light-years away in the constellation of Cygnus, the North America Nebula takes its name from its striking resemblance to the shape of the North American continent. This resemblance becomes particularly apparent when observing the dark contours that separate the nebula's different luminous regions.

This vast region of ionized gas is composed primarily of hydrogen, illuminated by the surrounding stars. In this image, I sought to preserve this structure while bringing out the gas filaments and the differences in color captured in the data.
