The Shark Nebula

Located approximately 650 light-years from Earth, the Shark Nebula is a vast dark dust structure located in the constellation of Cepheus.

Its silhouette naturally evokes that of a shark swimming through a field of stars. It was this distinctive shape that inspired me to create a photograph that can also be appreciated as an abstract image.

The final image was built from multiple exposures and then processed to bring out the differences in brightness between the dust clouds and the surrounding regions.
